The difference between memorizing and understanding: Don't fall into the trap of hoarding!

Image
Let us try to establish a definition f conservation versus understanding: Preservation means "cloning" individual states and stuffing them into the head, while understanding means "assimilating" the ideas that explain the general characteristics and the orderly relationships of those individual states and all that resemble them.   When someone advises you to "learn the basics", that's exactly what they want to say to you. But learning the basics of any science will not happen before first learning the "terms" used in it. Although this point is intuitive, it is frighteningly overlooked.   It is well known that the same word may mean completely different meanings according to the science in which it is used.   Ignorance in the correct sense of the term in the context of the science you are studying means that you will never understand it, which means that you will automatically resort to memorization.   It is assumed that the main job of a teac

Future Jobs: Will Robots Do It All ?!

Technological progress is accelerating in an unprecedented way.   We all know this fact, but often we only use it in decisions such as when to buy a new phone with greater capabilities and a cheaper price.   The goal of this article is to get you to think a little further. In a report by the Australian Youth Foundation - a non-profit organization that works to develop educational outcomes and life opportunities for young Australians - it was found that 70% of young people newly joining the workforce work in jobs that will be drastically affected by automation and technical progress, while 60% of current students They are being qualified for jobs that will experience similar impacts, many of which will disappear within 10 to 15 years, because two-thirds of them will be automated within the next few decades. The report also adds that the way we work will change - more automation, globalization, open jobs and new partnerships will lower barriers to entry into the labor market

Smart Cars: The Powerful Upcoming Computer Platform!

Image
. First it was personal computers, then smartphones.   What is the next platform to transform into a public computing platform? the cars.   Cars will be the next computing platform.   (Well, an upcoming 'one' computing platform). The general trend towards developing robotic cars (or self-driving cars as they are known in the media) is one of the main factors that will lead to this happening.   Building a computer system that can "completely" replace a human driver requires enormous processing capabilities, which means that the number of computing units used in cars will double.   I remember reading a while ago that the average number of processors in a modern car - nowadays - is 200, despite the fact that the jobs that cars currently perform are primitive compared to what a car running in the fifth automation level is supposed to do.  The best description I've read of those cars is going to be "Supercomputer on Wheels", or "supercomputer on wheels&q

The problem of artificial intelligence is not that "Hollywood" conception, but rather!

The risk associated with the widespread use of artificial intelligence algorithms is far from world-dominating scenarios ... etc. The real danger is the "normalization" of reliance on algorithms in making decisions, which means the disappearance of the party that can be held responsible when something goes wrong. Why can't I get a credit card? "- Sir, we do not know. The regime decided that." "- Who will bear the millions that we lost in the previous deal?" "- Sir, we do not know, but it was the regime that suggested it was a profitable deal." - Why did you bomb the hospital even though it was not a military target? "We, sir, did not bomb it, the regime did that." While this risk is general and not related to AI algorithms specifically, the amount of confidence that the non-specialist gives to anything whose description contains the term "artificial intelligence" exceeds that which it gives to other algorithms, which means

Hobby: its great importance in any person's life!

Image
I just ran into the corner of their performance when I started playing.   It wasn't the playing that caught my attention so much as the manner of playing it.   Watching it directly is very different from watching it in a video, for example. Speed, flow, harmony, that inhuman amount of motion control made it sound as if violin was part of her body.   How can a person reach such limits by his body? When I got home I searched for more information about her.   She is 25 years old and started playing at the age of 3.   That means she's been playing for 22 years.   It may have started as a hobby, but now it is all that she does in her life.   Continuity is the password, although it is not a secret.   The same applies not only to physical skills, but also to mental skills. I mentioned this story because there is a deeper point that I would like to make.   In our country, the only concern of parents is for their children's academic success.   Having a hobby not related to studying

People, the Internet and Privacy: Where to ?!

Image
The false sense of security behind a computer or phone screen tempts an individual to bypass the lines that they usually do not cross, which leads to results that are usually unfortunate as well.  In particular, there are two types of abuse that are most common: personal information and thoughtless speaking. Ah, what can I say about the first.   As if it were an epidemic that infects individuals with a state of involuntary leakage of personal information in a way that does not occur in any other context.   No, it is impossible to happen in any context at all.   How many details do some (the majority?) Post is confusing.   I can't find a precise word "confusing" to describe it.   Usually a mother does not know that much information about her children.   No, rather, the individual usually does not know about himself that much.   The matter is not limited to the sound, image and video of the individual in all situations and in all places and with all persons, but rather goes

Self-driving cars: Will they conquer the world ?!

Image
Robotic cars are one of the applications of mobile robotics, which is why the technologies used to develop them are the same technologies that researchers have been developing for decades, with an important difference: the acceptable margin of error in the case of robotic cars is close to zero.   This is not currently supported by technologies developed for research purposes. How do we deal with this matter?   A logical start is a review of the main assumptions on which all this research is based, and there we may find what helps us.   One of the main assumptions is that the environment in which the robot (or vehicle) moves does not contain any amount of intelligence or reactivity, so the robot must do everything on its own by relying on its own sensing capabilities. For example, if we assume that the robot we are talking about is a car approaching an intersection, what we would expect of the car is that it will be able to recognize a traffic light, stop with a red light, and travel wi

Career 2.0: The Nature and Requirements of the Potential Business Market right now!!

Technical development in general - and the emergence of the Internet and the ease of access to information in particular - have fundamentally changed the nature and definition of what we mean by "competition" between individuals. In the past, competition was mainly conducted in a vertical direction.   Your depth of knowledge and experience in a particular field gives you a competitive advantage over others working in the same field.   Before the advent of the Internet, there was no quick way to transfer expertise, and therefore the knowledge gap could not be reduced quickly, and for this reason experience remained a strong competitive advantage. But what about now? Ease of access to information - and ease of communication with experienced individuals - made the process of reducing the difference in experience in a relatively short time easy, and thus knowledge depth is no longer a strong competitive advantage as it was before.   By relying on appropriate resources, an individ

After the smartphones revolution .. Is it time for robots ?!

The technological nature of the current era is not completely gradual. Rather, it can be divided into a group of "technological waves", each of which lasts for a period of time, during which that wave is "the talk of the hour".   With the passage of time this wave reaches its fullest point in its development, after which it disappears (or is swallowed up) into the next wave that has already begun;   This is because its ability to reach higher heights - and thus bring about deeper change - is greater. Since the 1970s, the world has gone through the    following technological   waves   : 1-wave analog  It started in the 1970s and continued until the beginning of the 1990s.   Until then everyone was talking about the first shapes of large format televisions and recorders (do you remember the tape recorders you were rewinding with a pen?) As a result of advances in the manufacture of analog electronics. 2- The first digital wave: Which represents the first half of what

The power of investing one hour per day on a specific goal!

What    is the value of one hour in your life?   What effect  would that hour have if you used it to do something for a period of 3 months, for example? Yes, like those that might spend their weakness in a political fight with a friend, or spend 6 times as much on Facebook or watch the "trend" news? The following story is the strangest and most wonderful story I have read in my life so far.   Imagine that you are a homeless person living on the street without a homeless, then a stranger passes by you who offers you two options: to give you a hundred dollars or to teach you programming for two months! This is what Patrick Mechnology, 23, programmer, did when the homeless Leo Grand, 37, passed by.   To make matters even more strange, the homeless person, who may not have touched a computer in his life, chose to learn programming. It goes like this: Patrick gave Liu an old computer and some books, and for two months, starting August 28, Patrick would come daily for an hour befor

best gift ever for kids!

I think one of the best things you can do for your children is to push them to take up a sport at a young age (say, three years), and to make every effort to make sure they continue to do it afterwards. Yes, you can start exercising at any time, and yes, you will get its benefits if you stick, but permanent practice from the beginning has something else to do.   It is not just about the immediate health and mental benefits (which need to be covered by many topics), but that sport literally turns into a "lifestyle" that may affect all of a person's choices in his life afterward.   The simplest thing is that an athlete will instinctively move away from things that may harm his body, and thus the likelihood of him turning to smoking or drugs is much less than others.   This is just an example. What triggered this matter in my head was a conversation that I had with a colleague of the lab days ago - who is Japanese - when he mentioned in the midst of his speech that he had be

You see as much as you know: the importance of knowledge in creating choices.

The way you see things is strictly related to information.   The depth and influence of a particular sensory input to one of your five senses is related to the things you know about it and the meanings you connect with it, which are ultimately information.   We can even say that we sense the world through information, not the senses! Think about it .. What is the difference between a stranger and your best friend?   Nothing at all except the amount of information you associate with the two. Imagine that a random person came across in front of you for the first time .. You probably won't notice them.   Suppose you meet him by chance somewhere and spend one day with each other, at a conference or party for example .. If you met him the next day, would you see him in the same way that you saw him only one day ago?   of course not.   Just that little information that you know about this person - including the memories or impressions you made about him that day - changed the person’s st
